Extrovert Modem Delivers Next Generation Communications for Industrial PCs

January 17, 2017

By Frank Griffin - Contributing Writer

Industrial personal computers operate in some of the harshest environments, which requires the hardware to continue working in extreme temperature fluctuation, moisture, dust, and vibration. And with many mission-critical operations relying on these PCs for precise control, the reliability is extremely important to ensure the safety of the people that work in these facilities. Industrial PCs are now also becoming part of the Internet of Things (IoT) as thousands of devices are deployed to monitor a wide range of functions in industrial settings. The new embedded Extrovert modem from Logic Supply has been designed to address the harsh environment as well as address the next generation communications needs of IoT devices with the pre-certified 4G LTE (News - Alert) connectivity.

Logic Supply has been designing PCs for reliable operations in harsh environments and engineered to be highly-configurable since 2003. In addressing the communications of devices as part of the IoT, the company created pre-certified for LTE connectivity out of the box so they can be deployed much quicker without additional investments. According to the company, the pre-certified connectivity saves time, and as much as $50,000 associated with system certification.

Certification processes in industrial settings are a time-consuming process that involves a number of regulatory agencies because of the environment in which these products must operate in. By getting rid of the barriers to carrier connectivity, Logic Supply is providing a next generation communications solution for industries across many different sectors.

“Our customers wanted 4G connectivity without the frustration, complexity, and cost of the certification process. This product was driven by a challenge brought to our engineers by a customer who needed connectivity for embedded appliances distributed throughout North America. The Extrovert line resulted and we’re excited that this work will benefit all customers requiring just this kind of 4G connectivity,” said Roland Groeneveld, CEO of Logic Supply.

The Extrovert line of 4G SIM card-based modems have been pre-certified to work with the major carrier networks both in the U.S. and Europe, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon networks, Vodafone (News - Alert), Orange and Telefonica.

In addition to compatibility with these carriers, it has an agnostic platform that lets organizations connect the hardware to their network regardless of their software, computer model, or configuration.

With the 4G LTE capability, fast and reliable data transfers can be achieved in remote locations where wired or Wi-Fi connections are not available. The 4G LTE network also gives organizations access to next generation communications for information transfer, security, speed and reliability.
