Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) announced that the company has signed an agreement with Lazus to deploy 4G LTE network infrastructure in nine Colombian cities. Following the development, the companies will jointly deploy the IP/MPLS solution over the year to deliver high-performance and ultra-high bandwidth mobile backhaul and wholesale metropolitan services for application in IPTV (News - Alert) and Triple Play offerings and also for businesses and cloud service providers. The agreement is in line with Alcatel-Lucent’s strategic decision to emerge as an organization specializing in IP Networking and Ultra-broadband Access services.
In a release, Carlos Alberto Pena, Andean Region Leader at Alcatel-Lucent, said “Our agreement with Lazus reinforces Alcatel-Lucent's leadership in IP/MPLS in Colombia. These are quickly evolving markets, especially in the mobile space, and Lazus needed to choose a supplier who could address their immediate needs as well as be depended upon to offer the right solutions in the future. Our offering provides enough flexibility for Lazus to enhance its advanced services in all markets, including highways, corporate, mobile and residential.”
As per the terms of the agreement, Lazus will leverage the converged IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching) technology developed by Alcatel-Lucent to deliver 2G, 3G and 4G-enabled services for subscribers in nine Colombian cities including Bogota, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Sincelejo, Santa Marta, Bucaramanga, Monteria, Popayan and Cali. The IP/MPLS solution suite will include 7705 Service Aware (News - Alert) Router, 7450 Ethernet Service Switch and 7210 Service Access Switch in addition to the state-of-the-art network management and planning tools as well as associated professional services.
