For many, December means a few extra days off toward the end of the month, but it seems that, for the enterprise, it’s also prime time for executive-level hiring and promoting. Take, for example, Polycom (News - Alert) which appointed Peter A. Leav as its new president and CEO earlier in the month or, most recently, Alcatel-Lucent’s appointment of Tim Krause (News - Alert) as chief marketing officer.
Krause, who won’t actually be assuming his new role until January 1, will report to Alcatel-Lucent CEO Michel Combes and will be responsible for the company’s global marketing efforts, in addition to external communications. He will also lead a new diversification strategy and work on the development of business in five key segments, namely cable, Webscale, large technical enterprises, strategic industries and government driven broadband initiatives.
In other words, Krause will further build on the momentum of Alcatel-Lucent’s (News - Alert) Shift Plan, which has seen the company refocus as an IP networking and ultra-broadband specialist, to drive it further toward profitability.
“The Shift Plan has already set the company on the right path to anticipate market trends and customer expectations,” said Krause in a statement. “From my recent experience as head of the customer team for AT&T (News - Alert), I know firsthand that we have invested in the right technologies at the right time. I'm excited about this new opportunity to strengthen the company's impact in the broader marketplace.”
Previously, Krause served as senior vice president of the AT&T customer team. Overall, he boasts more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with positions spanning engineering, product line management, product strategy and now marketing with Alcatel. As such, he has the experience needed to help bring his new employer closer to its goal of shaping the future of the industry while, of course, ensuring profitable growth.
