Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), a major player in mobile, fixed, IP and Optics technologies and a pioneer in applications and services, recently hired industry veteran David J Geary as president of Wireless division.

Company officials confirmed that David’s appointment will be made effective from January 1, 2013, where he will be reporting directly to Philippe Keryer, president of the newly-formed Networks & Platforms Business Group.

In his new role, Geary will be responsible for the overall development and introduction of Alcatel-Lucent's portfolio of mobile radio access products and technologies, including solutions for 4G LTE (News - Alert), WCDMA, GSM, CDMA and Small Cells base stations and the lightRadio family of innovations.

The lighRadio family of innovations addresses several key operator needs for today and tomorrow, such as addressing data demand, capacity management and operational efficiency.

Geary was previously president of the Wireline division. But from January 1, 2013, the Wireline division will be headed by Federico Guillen.

Alcatel-Lucent is relying on Geary to repeat his success in the Wireline division, which earned a healthy 26.3-percent increase in revenue for the most recent quarter.

Alcatel-Lucent has operations in more than 130 countries and one of the most experienced global services organizations in the industry. The company has earned revenue of Euro 15.3 billion in 2011 and is incorporated in France and headquartered in Paris.

It is a long-trusted partner of service providers, enterprises, strategic industries and governments around the world.

In related TMC (News - Alert) news, Alcatel-Lucent formally unveiled has new solutions aimed at simplifying mobile backhaul in environments containing small cells. The sheer number of small cells makes architecting and managing mobile backhaul for all these new elements a challenge in itself.
