- Alert), Inc.'s operating subsidiary, Nextel Mexico, is now offering a full array of wireless products and services in Mexico, paving the way for a next-generation network, capable of providing its customers with innovative and differentiated solutions.
To be offered under the Nextel brand in Latin America, the new network includes the much touted and differentiated Push-to-Talk (PTT) service, high-speed data capabilities, incorporated into Android (News - Alert)-based smartphones, said officials.
"The launch of our next-generation network along with the new high-performance PTT experience in Mexico, is both an exciting and highly anticipated milestone for our employees and our customers," said Peter Foyo, president of Nextel Mexico.
PTT service is especially suited for group communications among government agencies and public utilities.
In this first phase of the deployment, the next-generation offerings will be available in 34 cities in the country, and during the second phase expansion, all of the main cities in Mexico are expected to be covered.
The addition of the new PTT service is powered by Qualcomm's (News
- Alert) QChat platform and is tightly integrated with the mobile broadband data services available on the network. It offers customers new value-added features, more options and benefits.
For starters, users can instantly connect to each other just by pushing a button using the Direct Connect high performance. PTT service, voice and PTT customers can also seamlessly connect using iDEN network.
The group call alert notifications notify users when someone is trying to contact them, even if they're attending another call. With high-speed Internet browsing and the ability to use the phone as a modem, customers get best-in-class instant communication.

Critical Path (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of messaging software and solutions for service providers, announced the launch of NII Holdings, Inc.'s 'Contactos Nextel', powered by Critical Path's Connect! Solution.
Critical Path's Connect! reportedly integrates social networking with mobile phone address books to simplify and unify consumer communications.
