OFS Solves Installation Challenges with New Optical Solution
By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor
OFS (News - Alert) is offering virtually invisible, faster fiber routing inside homes and MDUs by announcing the launch of its EZ-Bend InvisiLight Optical Solution.
OFS is a designer, manufacturer and supplier of innovative fiber optic network solutions. The company notes that although FTTH providers are deploying compact Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) into subscriber's homes not all customers want to install unsightly conventional optical cables.
Few customers prefer to have routing fiber behind walls but they are often challenged by the slow and expensive installation. The newly announced EZ-Bend InvisiLight Optical Solution from OFS solves this challenge through a 1 mm diameter optical micro-cord that blends seamlessly with the interior decor.
The installer rolls and adheres the micro-cord into grooves between ceilings and walls, walls and moldings, corners between walls, or directly on moldings. Also, the unique EZ-Bend fiber enables this solution to conform to the contours and many corners in a house.
OFS’ EZ-Bend InvisiLight Optical Solution has received positive response in field trials and it will be generally available in June of 2012.
“The OFS EZ-Bend InvisiLight Optical Solution enables customers nearly invisible, fast, plug and play fiber in the home to connect FTTH services to subscribers,” said John George, director of OFS Global Technical Marketing. “For service providers, this solution improves both sides of the business case equation: Its virtual invisibility helps increase customer acceptance and revenues, and the roll-on installation process, auto-slack storage, and plug and play connectors speed deployment to help reduce costs.”
This solution should help businesses such as Cablevision Argentina, a Latin American cable TV and Internet services provider that recently picked Alcatel-Lucent’s (News

In news from September 2011, OFS introduced AllWave FLEX+ fiber, the first Zero Water Peak (ZWP) single-mode fiber compliant to the ITU-T G.657.A2 specification. The fiber offers bend performance 20 times better than conventional single-mode fibers, is fully compatible with the installed base of conventional single-mode fiber, and enhances the OFS bend-optimized single-mode fiber product line.
