P&TLuxembourg, a global telecom carrier in Luxembourg, has chosen Alcatel-Lucent’s (News
- Alert) fiber access platform to deliver high-speed broadband service in the Grand Duchy, an independent sovereign state tucked between Belgium, France and Germany.
Under the deal, Alcatel will provide P&TLuxembourg with its 7360 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) FX, the company’s highest capacity fiber access platform. Enhancing broadband speed is the government’s strategy aimed at making the region Europe’s financial and trade center.
Once the fiber network is built, P&TLuxembourg wants to deliver a wide array of broadband services and content, including streaming video, music and social networking for consumers, and video conferencing and cloud-based productivity tools for businesses.
“By introducing ultra-fast broadband access, we are helping to ensure that Luxembourg maintains and strengthens its position as a global center for economic activity realizing the governments National Ultra High Broadband Strategy,” said Serge Eiffes, head of the Fixed Access Network Department at P&TLuxembourg.
The operator said it believed that it chose the right technology with a seamless mix of existing copper and fiber infrastructure for maximum efficiency.
Operators across Europe are rolling out high-speed fiber broadband network as that has turned out to be a critical infrastructure for services such as e-commerce, e-healthcare and e-learning.
Luc Defieuw, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent Bell in Belgium, has stated that the new network would allow the operator to deliver new, secure and high-speed broadband services to the market, and in turn help boost the economy in the country.
A week ago, Alcatel-Lucent announced the launch of one of Latin America's largest broadband access networks with Telmex (News
- Alert). Alcatel-Lucent was selected as a key supplier for the deployment of a superfast broadband access network based on VDSL2 and GPON technologies in Mexico, to meet growing demand for connectivity, super high-speed Internet and high-bandwidth applications, such as video-on-demand, entertainment, social networks and other services.
