By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Ikanos (News - Alert) Communications, a provider of broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, announced the launch of two new dual-core communications processors, Fusiv Vx175 and Fusiv Vx173.

Leveraging Ikanos’ Fusiv Vx175/173 processors, service providers can deploy and manufacturers can build devices including femtocell gateways, smart energy gateways, mobile broadband routers, optical networking terminals, network attached storage and other services gateways.

"The traditional residential gateway is morphing into an intelligent services gateway a home hub that enables everything from content delivery like IPTV (News - Alert) to home automation and energy management and a whole host of cloud-based services," said Jonathan Black, director of customer premises marketing for Ikanos, in a statement.

"Regardless of the broadband access technology wireline or wireless these service gateways need substantial processing speed, flexible interfaces, quality of service and advanced power management. Ikanos' Fusiv Vx185/183 is optimized for VDSL while the Vx175/173 provides the same benefits for PON, LTE (News - Alert) and other broadband access technologies," Black added.

The Vx175/173 processors are designed to offer a range of advanced capabilities including advanced dual-core processor architecture, voice processing engine, programmable hardware accelerators, multiple interfaces for LAN/WAN integration, Internet Protocol security (IPsec) performance, integrated SATA interface and dynamic power management.

Recently, Ikanos Communications announced the expansion of its partnership with ASSIA, a provider of Dynamic Spectrum (News - Alert) Management (DSM) software tools that are capable of simplifying commercial deployment of service provider networks by leveraging the latest ITU-T standard -- G.Vector.

The software tools provide 100 megabit per second (Mbps) performance over traditional copper telephone lines. Ikanos and ASSIA partnership is designed to create an ecosystem for service providers to enable new bandwidth-intensive services besides streamlining “time to revenue” on vectored networks.
