IPTV: The "Clear" Winner
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
For those network providers seeking to drive sustainable revenue streams, the quality of service delivered to the customer is an important consideration. When it comes to IPTV (News - Alert), not only must the delivery be crystal clear, the quality of service delivered must exceed that of the competition.
In partnering with a provider like Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), network providers gain access to enablers that can improve their opportunity to drive revenues from IPTV delivery. The QoS that must be the goal includes innovation striving for next generation solutions that ensure the communications experience focuses on the demands of the consumer.
As a service provider trying to meet this need, it is common to ask such questions as “what will drive customers onto networks, keep them engaged an satisfied” and “what will be a catalyst for growth for many years to come?”
Alcatel-Lucent provides multi-screen technology for IPTV that allows for the seamless movement of content and services across devices. With this unique ability, consumers are provided with more freedom, simplified consumptions and increased service value. Multi-screen has the ability to create growth and loyalty through a constructive intersection of the content, advertising and communications industries.
In leveraging multi-screen service capabilities, the network provider can evolve towards a smarter network. In knowing the subscriber’s preferences, devices, service entitlements, etc., data can easily be mined to provide more relevant advertising and promotions to current clients. This approach also helps to tailor the content in real-time to the subscriber and the device.
In an exploration of the multi-screen concept, service providers are taking a closer look at Alcatel-Lucent and its development of the solution that will enable operators to introduce new multi-screen services profitably and at a pace that makes sense for their business model.
With multi-screen offerings, service providers can offer true IPTV that is highly-personalized, highly-valued and in an experience that gives consumers the power to move from place to place and device to device, still enjoying access to the content they want, when and where they want it.
