Tecore Networks Continues to Gain "Buy American" Status
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
Tecore Networks, a global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, announced that the U.S. federal government is continuously awarding the company the selective “Buy American” status.
This development, according to Tecore (News - Alert) officials, is notable as it happens at a time when consolidation in the cellular equipment industry otherwise continues to see ownership moving outside North America.
For example, Motorola, which established U.S. leadership of the cellular industry, recently announced that it is selling its network division to Nokia Siemens (News - Alert).
Tecore also comments, “following well-publicized changes at Nortel and Lucent, Tecore continues to strongly carry on the proud tradition of American-owned innovation and excellence in mobile communications technologies.”
As an independent vendor headquartered in the United States for nearly two decades, Tecore is addressing substantial demand for next-generation equipment among government and military organizations, the company noted.
Company’s entire product and customer lifecycle – from research and development, to manufacturing and customer support – is carried out within the U.S. While most vendors in the industry have considered changes in control, Tecore has maintained a consistent, stable ownership structure since its inception, company officials claimed.
Tecore’s iCore multi-technology, multi-generation network platform has been deployed globally. State and federal government agencies use this technology for productivity as well as for security, including managed access to selectively permit or prevent cellular communications in restricted areas.
The technology from Tecore finds applications in military as well. Company officials say Military organizations are increasingly embracing the tactical and operational advantages of a secured network platform that establishes a sophisticated communications infrastructure in under an hour.
iCore multi-technology offers a complete 2G-3G-4G core network (UMSC / MSC (News - Alert) / VLR, EPC, HLR/HSS, AuC / AC, SMSC / MMSC, Prepaid IN) delivered on a single blade. The software-defined core network delivers the same standards-based functionality utilized by global carriers, cost- and size-optimized for all types of operators.
Additionally the technology offers concurrent support for voice and data services for GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE (News - Alert) and SIP technology families, from common object code, the company said.
“While our industry has gone through tremendous upheaval in the past decade, Tecore has maintained a steady course of innovation and growth in 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, completely developed, manufactured and supported in the United States,” Jay Salkini, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tecore Networks, said.
“As state and federal governments, and the armed forces take advantage of next-generation network applications, Tecore’s uniquely adaptable, multi-technology platform will provide the American answer to their requirements,” Salkini added.
Earlier in March Tecore announced that its core and radio access network or “RAN” products have been selected to expand the GSM network of Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative or “ASTAC” to cover Prudhoe Bay, the largest oil field in North America.
