LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent dedicated to serving the U.S. government community, has been selected as one of the Raytheon (News - Alert) Integrated Defense Systems 2009 Supplier Excellence Award recipients.

The award was presented to LGS earlier this month to recognize suppliers who demonstrate a commitment to consistent quality, on-time delivery, safety and investment in process improvement initiatives.

Officials with LGS said that throughout 2009 the company has been working closely with Raytheon on the Landing Platform Dock 17 (LPD17) Program by supplying Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) enterprise networking solutions with OmniSwitch 9700 for the core and the energy efficient OmniSwitch 6850 for the edge.

Company officials said that the LPD17 program supports the San Antonio class, which is the latest class of amphibious force ship for the United States Navy.

“LGS works each day to deliver communications networking equipment to support the growing information demands of our maritime personnel both in port and at sea,” said Mark Wendorf, director of Naval business developmentat LGS, in a statement.

Wendorf said that Amphibious naval ships serve as a centralized deployment hub and communications center for operations in trouble spots around the world.

In February LGS Innovations had announced that it was named a subcontractor on the Lockheed Martin (News - Alert) team that was recently awarded a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

The $31 million Military Network Protocol contract calls for Lockheed Martin to develop new cyber assurance procedures that will improve security, and provide dynamic bandwidth allocation and policy-based priorities at the individual and unit levels.

The LGS Internet Research Department will work as a part of the Lockheed Martin’s Infrastructure team whose goal is to define, design, develop, and test the common elements used in the DARPA solution.
