By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
Alcatel-Lucent has announced that Maroc Telecom, a telecommunications operator in the Kingdom of Morocco, has chosen Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) as its billing and customer care systems integrator to evolve its mobile billing platforms toward a new fully converged and integrated version.
Maroc Telecom operates fixed, mobile and internet telecommunications services in Morocco. Being the first operator in the country, the company said it must provide subscribers with attractive, innovative, diversified and well-adapted services to maintain its leaderships, said Jalil Larhrib, IT director of Maroc Telecom.
The decision to migrate to a next generation billing and customer care system for both fixed, mobile and Internet services reinforces its position in the market as an innovative operator that strives continually to develop new business opportunities and to optimize its network, company officials said.
The company chose Alcatel-Lucent for its strong expertise in Business Support System (BSS) integration and for its commitment in term of deadlines and quality of services, Larhrib further said.
Alcatel Lucent’s BSS solutions combine customer care, rating and billing and network integration services. They offer flexible, high-quality, value-added services to its mobile customers.
The solution integrates all components needed for provisioning, customer care and billing, incorporating products from Alcatel-Lucent’s customer care partner LHS, a leading independent software vendor (ISV) of billing and customer care systems in the telecom industry.
This project includes the installation, deployment, project management, integration and maintenance for the migration of Maroc Telecom mobile billing and customer care platforms BSCS version 7 towards BSCS iX Release 2, said Maroc officials.
“For this project we leveraged our global experience with complex integration projects,” said Abdel Mounim Ghetreff, head of Alcatel-Lucent’s business in Morocco, in a statement. “With our billing and customer care partner LHS, we are providing a solution that enables Maroc Telecom to propose more personalized billing and support services to its customers while improving revenue collection and leakage prevention.”
In October, Alcatel-Lucent launched a pilot project with KELAG Netz, an Austrian power and gas supplier and energy network operator, for the deployment and integration of smart metering infrastructure, TMCnet reported.
The first in a series of end-to-end pilots includes operational support systems (OSS) and business support system (BSS) for smart metering in Austria. Under this pilot, Alcatel-Lucent will provide its smart metering solution to 550 homes.
