By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
Alcatel-Lucent, a provider of communication technologies for service providers, enterprises and governments worldwide, announced it is designating its Istanbul training center as the official location of Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) University.
Alcatel-Lucent officials said that the university will provide learning and expertise to Alcatel-Lucent customers in the region such as Turk Telekom (News - Alert) group. Students at the Alcatel-Lucent University-Istanbul center will better understand and maximize the functionality of Alcatel-Lucent products, solutions and services through consultative, innovative and cost-effective learning solutions.
The knowledge center will also enable Alcatel-Lucent employees to enhance productivity and achieve their professional development objectives with multimedia learning solutions in the areas of leadership, functional, technical and product training.
Alcatel-Lucent has also partnered with local educational institutions, including Sabanci University, Istanbul Technical University, Bahcesehir University and Istanbul University to broaden employee professional development and skills development.
“Leveraging the benefits of local resources, trainers at the Istanbul center have the necessary expertise to satisfy customer needs,” said Pinar Temizkan, HR director of Alcatel-Lucent in Turkey, in a statement. “Both customers and employees also gain from the global reach of Alcatel-Lucent since our accredited learning center benefits from being part of the full Alcatel-Lucent University network.”
The university, one of 20 independently accredited learning centers around the globe, aims at creating “a culture of innovation, providing learning interventions to initiate, drive and support change necessary for competing in today’s evolving markets.” Through this learning process, Alcatel-Lucent University said it helps customers, partners and employees to achieve their strategic business objectives.
Opened in 1986, the Istanbul training center was serving as a satellite training facility. With this announcement, the Turkish location has transitioned to a fully accredited global learning center within Alcatel-Lucent University.
Alcatel-Lucent University–Istanbul is the second Alcatel-Lucent University to achieve accreditation in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Central and Southern European region.
The university provides training on a wide variety of products and solutions supporting end-user services: voice, data and video transmission services over fixed or mobile platforms.
Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SK Telecom, a leading telecommunications provider in Korea, to enable the development of next-generation networking technologies, TMCnet reported.
The two companies agreed to work toward defining what the shape of wireless networks will look like beyond the 4G networks. They also plan to focus on developing methods for enabling increasingly complex networks to manage and configure themselves, company officials said.
