With 5G on the horizon, it is time for global carriers to start preparing for this dramatic transformation. Such carriers must begin incubating new services starting with 4.5 G, according to Huawei (News - Alert) Executive Director and President of the Carrier Business Group, Ryan Ding. Speaking about the new capabilities and developments that must accompany 5G’s arrival, Ding gave much insight as to how carriers can be proactive to achieve the ultimate success.
Ding acknowledged that since the introduction of smartphones 10 years ago, the mobile data service and global mobile carrier intake surpassed one trillion dollars. With the development of 5G, industries will have more growth opportunities, continuously keeping the revenue on an incline. Though mainly utilized for enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and fixed wireless access (FWA), IoT is steadily growing. It is estimated that the IoT market volume will be around $1.9 trillion by 2025, according to Gartner (News - Alert).
With any new technological developments, like 5G and enhanced IoT, carriers have a responsibility to tailor job positions to ever-changing and growing markets. But, much must be done to set the stage, starting with establishing a place in WTTx and NB-IoT while building a variety of end-to-end capabilities.
"5G will unleash huge business potential for carriers. Huawei looks forward to using innovative business solutions to help carriers build new capabilities and incubate new services, so as to achieve new growth in the coming 5G era," said Ding.
Wireless will be the fuel that lights the fire for 350 million homes globally by 2020, according to Ovum (News - Alert). It is predicted there will be four mainstream ways to offer home broadband access: WTTx, fiber, copper, and cable. WTTx is at the forefront, propelling 4.5G networks, with 200 WTTx networks deployed internationally by the end of this year, linking 50 million homes.
The developments coming the way of wireless are extremely transformative and can be very profitable but only if businesses have a proper plan in place.
