In-flight data connectivity has been a booming market for service providers. But many passengers are not too keen on using in-flight connectivity services because of the costs involved. Internet services in flight are notoriously expensive and end up burning a hole in the users’ pocket.
Maybe not anymore. BendixKing, a division of Honeywell (News - Alert) has announced an in-fliight data plan, which the company claims is affordable. Named AeroWave 100 in-flight Internet system, this data plan is ideal for general aviation aircraft including pistons, turboprops and light jets.
Traditionally, users in a flight are charged on the amount of data they use. But the new data plan by BendixKing looks at the hours surfed, which the company claims works out better for the users. Right now, the company is offering 50 hours of internet connectivity for $1,999. Working with the AeroWave 100, BendixKing's new service plan offers speeds of up to 104 Kbps.
Since the usage is billed in hours, customers do not have to keep guessing about their usage. This is especially helpful for today’s smartphones and tablets which keep gobbling up data in the background and throw a nasty surprise when the bill is generated. While AeroWave 100 plans are available through authorized dealers at an MSRP of $19,999, BendixKing Service plans are available in blocks of 3,000 minutes (50 hours) for $1,999.
“With the data plan for AeroWave 100, we eliminated the ridiculously expensive price barrier for obtaining in-flight connectivity for the light jet and turboprop market," said Kevin Gould, president of BendixKing. "Delivering real, usable Internet connectivity for under $40 per hour completely changes the market. Our customers asked for simplicity and affordability, and we delivered.”
BendixKing has been offering numerous attractive plans for in-flight users. The company introduced BendixKing AeroWave 100 in March this year, which offered in-flight Internet to general aviation aircraft, including twins, turboprops and light jets.
