With the lull in tradeshows this past week as sources of news, the Next Generation Communications Community was certainly active on insights and advice side of things which as usual exemplify the diversity of community interests.
The news this week included, RADCOM joining the Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) CloudBand Ecosystem program, as momentum continues to build for advancing industry adoption of network functions virtualization (NFV). There was also an interesting item being forecast that videomail appears to be gaining traction as an alternative to voicemail. And, on a completely different note, the announcement that Telekom Srbija will be using VDSL2 Vectoring technology as part of its acceleration of offering broadband services in Serbia highlights how fixed line operators around the world are using the technology to be fast to market as competition for broadband services intensifies.
Depending on how you look at it, this past week the community was feature rich or contained content rich features.
The first one of note was my posting on the just released report from community host Alcatel-Lucent, The Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Applications Rankings Report. The link to the feature as well as the report are provided since there are some really interesting findings you will wish to take some time reviewing that make the download of the article something to put on your “must read” list. This report, based on numbers generated from Alcatel-Lucent’s popular Wireless Network Guardian (WNG) solution reveals how better collaboration between mobile network operators and app developers can optimize usage and device battery life for an improved experience.
In line with the trend that ecosystem development and nurturing is becoming critical for success, the feature on Alcatel-Lucent’s enhancements to its partner program should also be of interest.
In the blog section, the subject was so topical that we actually posted two special guest contributions on VoLTE. In fact, the first one came in early so it went up late last week but is worth a look if you did not get around to it. It is by Jean Jones, Director, Wireless Marketing, Alcatel-Lucent who is authoring a series of blogs on insights gained from successful VoLTE deployments which are based on asking the experts. It details what to look for in future blogs along with some initial insights. Blog #2 is the continuation of Ed Elkin, Director, IP Platforms Marketing, Alcatel-Lucent of his series on the secret value of VoLTE. This time Elkin honed in on VoLTE’s value to enterprises.
Want to get even more valuable information about next generation communications? If you do and have time this weekend, the links provided on the community home page are your gateway to constantly updated news, whitepapers, videos, podcasts and case studies.
There are also links to several eZines, and two recent Alcatel-Lucent TechZine articles, are worth reading:
The other eZines, GRIDTalk, TRACKTALK and LIFETALK have detailed articles into key market sectors that are equally as timely and informative.
Finally, as I have recommended for several week, a new book by Randee Adams, Consulting Member of Technical Staff, and Eric Bauer, Reliability Engineering Manager, Alcatel-Lucent entitled, Service Quality of Cloud-Based Applications, would be a great addition to your reading list.
