Leviton unveiled its Intact intelligent port management system for monitoring port status and managing network changes in fiber and copper networks.
Mark Dearing, senior product manager for Leviton said, “Intact provides infrastructure managers with a monitoring solution that’s easy to use, economical, and works seamlessly across multiple systems and devices. It’s an open system with a simple interface that eliminates complexity, and it's the most cost-effective solution for a layer 1 infrastructure.”
Officials explained that the intelligent port management system will be able to send alerts and real-time information to IT managers. Using the information they will be able to detect and diagnose problems and take proactive action using the Intact software.
The Intact patch cord is a critical component of the intelligent port management system that leverages a programmable microchip. The microchip features a unique identifier at one or both ends.
The patch cords along with the Intact patch panels are designed to convey the port status to the Intact device manager via a USB cable. LED lights located on the panels indicate a port’s status and will provide the visual guidance for work order execution.
Also the system software in the Intact device manager is accessible on any standard Web browser across the corporate network and is compatible with PCs, tablets and smartphones.
QuickPort copper panels (1RU, 24-port) and Opt-X Ultra fiber enclosures (1RU, 2RU) are “intelligent-ready” and when combined with Intact panels can be made into an Intact intelligent device, explained officials.
Intact software helps users to manage work orders, log events and also create network topologies. The visual displays and connection information enables accurate navigation to appropriate panels for locating specific ports thereby avoiding mistakes and wrong changes.
As the software arrives pre-installed on the Intact Device Manager, the need for new installations and configuration is eliminated.
In April 2013, Berk-Tek, a Nexans company, and Leviton entered into a long-term strategic agreement, creating the Berk-Tek Leviton Technologies alliance. The combined strength of Leviton’s extensive connectivity portfolio and Berk-Tek’s cables produces optimized copper and fiber solutions. This provides customers with a best-of-breed option for reliable and high-performance networks.
