China Mobile (News - Alert), one of China's largest mobile service providers, announced that it is deploying Alcatel-Lucent's small cells solution in the world's largest TD-LTE (News - Alert) network.
The deployment follows China Mobile’s nationwide TD-LTE license award and successful trials of Alcatel-Lucent’s Metro Cell solution in several high populated cities of China.
“We are pleased to be working closely with China Mobile on the deployment of their 4G TD-LTE services. The application of our co-created small cells technology underlines the closeness of our co-operation,” said Michel Combes, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), in a statement.
Combes said that by leveraging the company’s innovations and experience driving 4G adoption worldwide, Alcatel-Lucent will continue to support China Mobile's delivery of quality services enabling ultra-broadband mobile access.
Thanks to the Metro Cell solution, which has been co-created by Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile, China Mobile will be able to meet the surging capacity demands for ultra-broadband access in urban areas across China in the most effective and economical way.
Officials with Alcatel-Lucent said that small cells are a critical component of LTE ultra-broadband deployments as they enable operators to boost coverage and capacity in busy areas such as shopping malls, sports stadiums and high-traffic roads.
By bringing the base station closer to the end user small cells assure mobile broadband including enriched multimedia services wherever consumers are located.
TMCnet in September reported that China Mobile and Alcatel-Lucent have announced the selection of Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative lightRadio 4G TD-LTE overlay. This decision was made for their nationwide rollout of the world’s largest high-speed mobile broadband network.
For more than three years now, China Mobile has actively carried out large-scale TD-LTE live network trials. Presently, the company is scaling the deployments and plans to deploy more than 207,000 TDE-LTE base stations across China by the end of this year.
According to Alcatel-Lucent’s website, "Alcatel-Lucent's 4G TD-LTE technology provides high quality wireless data coverage, which is helping China Mobile significantly improve mobile broadband service to their customers in an extremely cost-efficient way.”
