With a focus to bridge the digital divide and make technology accessible to the youth from disadvantaged communities, Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) has done a great job in Nigeria. As part of its corporate social responsibility agenda, Alcatel0Lucent Foundation, the company’s charitable arm, initiated a number of training and educational programs for these disadvantaged youth. The programs were aimed at preparing the African youth for life and professional careers in a globalized world.
Now, CareerNation, the international human resources management consulting firm with offices in the U.S. and Africa, has honored Alcatel-Lucent Nigeria with the prestigious Africa Human Resources Excellence Awards in "The Best Use of Corporate Social Responsibility in HR" Award category for the year 2013.
Company officials received the award at the 5th annual CareerNation Africa Human Resource Conference & Excellence Awards event, which took place in Accra, Ghana.
“This is an award given for the company's achievements in terms of employee engagement, innovative programs in education and technological fields and for a strong contribution in the community, to help bridge the digital divide,” T. Madubuko, the PHR managing partner at CareerNation, explained.
He particularly praised the company and its eployees’ efforts in overcoming various challenges to make innovative contributions toward the human resources development in Africa.
Country Manager of Alcatel-Lucent Nigeria, Hatim Zougari, also said the achievement was a testament to the hard work of the company’s employees and a positive collaboration between management and employees.
“This is the first time we have entered this Award, this success is a result of joint effort between our employees and management, our Foundation and community partners, thanks to everyone for helping make our company's CSR (News - Alert) vision a reality,” Zougari said.
