Alcatel-Lucent (News
- Alert) and China Mobile today jointly announced the unveiling of the new innovative member of the LightRadio family, set to accelerate 3-4G TD-LTE technology in China, the largest market for mobile phones in the world.
This technology can provide a crucial breather for manufacturers who are forever looking for new ways to meet rising demand for mobile data and video.
The unveiling of LightRadio Metro Radio, a joint production between Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile (News
- Alert), is set to occur in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress 2013, currently underway and concluding tomorrow.
This hot new technology is available for commercial deployment on a large scale for initial trials by China Mobile using the TD-LTE (News - Alert) network. The trial spans over 13 Chinese cities, with LightRadio Metro Radio bringing 4G high-performance services to people living in densely populated Shanghai, Quingdao and Nanjing.
These are among some of the fastest-growing cities in the whole world, and this high-quality system is ideal for meeting the demands of data, video and mobile Internet in one of the largest of the smartphone markets worldwide.
An idea regarding the staggering demand is evident from the fact that China Mobile boasts over a 722-million strong subscriber base – over half of the total number of mobile users in the world.
Today, people use mobile services to access gaming and video streaming, which require high bandwidth. In such a scenario, it is quickly becoming difficult for cellular networks to keep providing the expected services with the resources at hand.
In order to enable operators to continue providing high-quality and increased bandwidth in broadband wireless connections, the introduction of smart cells with higher propensity is becoming crucial. This allows customers to enjoy consistent quality services on a regular basis, minus the logistically challenged and inordinately expensive cell towers.
Bill Huang, president of Research Institute, China Mobile, said China Mobile is forever committed to the delivery of high-performance and high-speed broadband mobile services – a dream come true for every customer. Before final commercial deployment can occur, the 4G TD-LTE is to go through the final leg of large-scale tests.
Once this is complete, Alcatel-Lucent’s LightRadio Metro Radio will be the key factor for providing this state-of-the-art service, so that it is able to meet customer requirements anywhere at any time.
Alcatel-Lucent’s LightRadio product portfolio reduces power consumption and costs, along with LTE network element size. This in turn helps operators across the globe to meet customer demand for high-speed mobile data and video transfers, with increased efficiency and performance.
China Mobile is a well-known, state-owned telecommunication company in China that provides multimedia and mobile voice services through its telecommunication network.
Alcatel-Lucent is a leading name in innovation in the field of communication technology and networking.
