- Alert), a mobile operator in Russia, has installed ECI’S Apollo Optimized Multi-Layer Transport (OMLT).
The project links a 1,000 km stretch between Moscow and Saint Petersburg and has been providing both 2.5G and 10G services since 2003. This new installation will help MTS to make use of XDM shelves and helps users save time and money.
The Apollo OMLT helps users manage their day-to-day operations, and it is supported by ECI’s LightSoft Network Management System. With this new deployment, MTS’ backbone network will now get an inexpensive and affordable core solution, the company has announced.
OMLT has the capacity to support high bandwidth demand from customers. This is an important feature as the demand for bandwidth has increased exponentially in the last few years, thanks to the surge of multimedia and video based content.
“With about 100 million mobile subscribers, MTS is able to edge ahead with 100G capabilities in one of the main telecom links in the country,” stated Boris Mirkin, Head of Russia and CIS Business Unit, ECI Telecom (News - Alert). “The Russian market faces one of the fiercest competition today in the world, and by leveraging the deployed XDM network, MTS can migrate to advanced services more cost-effectively and with faster time to market."
Recently, the company introduced its Native Packet Transport (NPT) platforms. According to the company, these platforms help operators to create new Packet Transport Networks (PTN).
