It’s not only the people who are connected in this communication age; even homes are connected these days. A connected home allows users to operate many functions of the house, such as locking the doors, or switching off the TV remotely.
It also allows them to make the best of use of available facilities at their homes.
Tantalus, a provider of smart grid communications, has joined the connected home party as it recently announced joining Alcatel-Lucent’s (News - Alert) ng Connect program.
With this, Tantalus will be the IP-enabled smart grid gateway for its TUNet smart meters and devices.
The ng Connect Program from Alcatel-Lucent brings together companies all over the world to improve connected home solutions. The program has three components: Innovation Ecosystem, Innovation Environment and Concept Development.
The program seeks to enhance the availability of a high-bandwidth infrastructure.
“As we’ve already seen through some of our utility customer deployments, Alcatel-Lucent’s fiber-to-the-home network, combined with a robust AMI system like TUNet, enables load shifting that is critical in both reducing energy use as well as managing costs,” said Eric Murray, president and CEO at Tantalus. “We’re pleased to be collaborating with Alcatel-Lucent and ng Connect to help public power utilities more efficiently manage loads while empowering consumers to take ownership of home energy use in the most convenient and efficient ways possible.”
The company has been entering in to various partnerships to enhance smart grid solutions. Recently, it entered into a partnership with N-Dimension Solutions Inc., to improve the security of smart grids. With this new partnership, Tantalus’ TUNet will now have the ability to identify and prevent suspicious and unwanted activities as they happen.
This is a huge advantage for smart grid companies as any security threats can prove costly to them.
