Alcatel-Lucent (News
- Alert) is one of the most experienced global services organizations in the networking and communications industry and is regarded as one of the world's most innovative companies.
It has lived up to this reputation by helping to transform the network of a major service provider in South Korea- LG Uplus - with the aid of its 7750 Service Router portfolio, which has been adopted by more than 475 carriers in over 110 countries, noted company officials.
The solution, delivered as part of Alcatel-Lucent’s vision for the high leverage network, is expected to help service providers dramatically increase broadband speeds and capacity in response to exploding demand for high-speed Internet access and other high-bandwidth services.
Alcatel-Lucent's 7750 Service Router portfolio is thus expected to deliver “more bandwidth and services to more subscribers, more efficiently.” Apart from being able to streamline current network operations for providers, the solution will also help subscribers reduce capital and operational expenses.
South Korea is ranked as the world’s most advanced information economy by the ITU and is experiencing rapid growth of broadband services. To meet this demand, LG Uplus has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s Internet protocol/multiprotocol label switching technology in some of the country’s major cities.
Alcatel-Lucent has also deployed its IP service routers to enable LG Uplus to deliver faster and more reliable Internet access, video and voice services to its customers, laying the foundation for future speeds up to 400 gigabit - per-second and even greater capacity.
The project, according to officials, will thus help Alcatel-Lucent to showcase its ability to deliver a market-leading solution that is flexible, scalable, operationally cost-effective and energy conscious.
“In a market as digitally connected as South Korea, high-quality is key for service providers like LG Uplus to attract and retain customers,” noted Rajeev Singh- Molares, president of Alcatel-Lucent, Asia Pacific region.
Alcatel-Lucent formally unveiled new solutions aimed at simplifying mobile backhaul in environments containing small cells by adding to its 7705 Service Aggregation Router family, introducing new microwave backhaul options and broader copper- and fiber-based small cell backhaul access solutions.
