PureWave Networks has licensed LTE eNodeB software from the Aricent (News - Alert) Group, a technology innovation services company specializing in communication technology.
“Small cells offer operators the only economically viable way to keep up with the rapidly increasing demand for wireless data service. PureWave Constellation base stations dramatically improve the operator business case for small cell deployment by allowing operators to share the cost of network deployment, while retaining full control over their network,” said Ronen Vengosh, VP of marketing and business development at PureWave Networks, in a statement.
A provider of small cells, PureWave will integrate the Aricent LTE (News - Alert) eNodeB software with its PureWave Constellation family of small cell LTE base stations. Aricent’s LTE eNodeB software framework will deliver optimized layer 2 and layer 3 modules for the PureWave Constellation family of LTE eNodeBs.
This will ensure extensive wireless coverage and capacity up to 1Gbps that will suit different deployment options besides also urban environments with towering buildings. PureWave Constellation base stations will also feature multi-tenant options using which operators can share the same base station box.
However, each operator will be able to retain full control of their respective spectrum band, management capability and core network connectivity, confirmed officials.
The integration of layer 2 and layer 3+ LTE modules and the provision of multimode functionality by the Aricent software framework will help in the development of better LTE solutions.
Also, the software provides value-added applications for Radio Resource Management (RRM), call and session management, Self-Organized Networks (SON) and management plane. The complete layer 2 and layer 3 functionality makes integration with other modules easy ensuring interoperability.
Rakesh Vij, vice president of business development, wireless and convergence, Aricent Group (News - Alert) said, “The combination of Aricent’s software platform with PureWave’s innovative architecture and unique productization delivers a highly compelling LTE solution to meet the demands of this ever evolving market.”
PureWave Network released its Constellation family of small cell
LTE base stations in May 2012. These have been designed to provide unprecedented wireless capacity covering multiple dense city blocks.
