Zhone Technologies Introduces New zNID Optical Network Terminals to Europe

- Alert), Inc., a provider of all IP multi-service access solutions, recently announced that it would unveil its new zNID 24xx Gigabit Ethernet (GE) Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) at the annual FTTH Conference in Munich, Germany.
A part of the zNID 24xx series indoor ONTs, this cost-efficient, high performance solution is designed to meet the needs of the bandwidth intensive services. Based on Zhone Management System (ZMS) and Zhone EZ Touch Provisioning System, the Active Ethernet indoor ONTs are ideal for both residential homes and business deployment, the company clarified in a press release. The ONTs can be installed either on desktop or wall mounted.
In addition, the Zhone FiberHome (News - Alert), an expanded next-generation broadband access solutions portfolio---will also be demonstrated at the show. Based on MXP-160/260 and MXP-180/280 1U Single Line Multi-Service (SLMS) platforms, the new solutions have been designed to provide advanced multi-play connectivity to global voice, data, and video service providers.
According to company website, the Zhone FiberHome portfolio provides compact, fully programmable, high performance solutions that enable service providers to cost-effectively generate additional revenue through multi-play offerings, including the different iterations of video services emerging in the marketplace.
The twin-launch marks the product’s entry into the European market. According to industry experts, the launch is perfectly well timed as ever-increasing bandwidth demands in Europe called for the introduction of the high-performance, cost-efficient solutions. IPTV (News
- Alert) is fast gaining momentum in Europe. According to the Broadband Forum by Point Topic, IPTV in Europe is approaching 55 million subscribers. Zhone's s MXK platform and the applications in the Zhone FiberHome and Zhone FiberCell portfolios are expected to serve as a core enabler of operators’ broadband expansion efforts for residential and wireless backhaul markets.
Recently Zhone Technologies reported its financial results for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011. According to the report, revenue for the fourth quarter of 2011 was $33.4 million compared to $30.2 million for the third quarter of 2011 and $31.0 million for the fourth quarter of 2010.
