Devicescape Well Positioned to Ease Congestion in Cellular Networks
By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor
Devicescape, Inc., the Wi-Fi offload company, announced that it had reached 5.5 million hotspots globally, growing by more than 10 percent in 2011.
“Today, we offer more than 5 million high-quality hotspots, and we are growing daily. We’re also seeing offload rates greater than 40 percent, which is stellar by industry standards. While proud of those numbers, we’re just scratching the surface of connecting the world’s publicly available Wi-Fi.” said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape, in a press release.
The growth of Devicescape and its ability to connect more devices to more Wi-Fi hotspots than any other offload service gathers even greater significance in the light of projections made by Daryl Schoolar, principal analyst at Ovum (News - Alert) Research.
He projects that HSPA+ and LTE cannot cost effectively absorb the growth in data traffic entirely by themselves and mobile operators needed to ramp up their efforts around carrier Wi-Fi solutions to offload data traffic from mobile broadband networks.
Devicescape Offload Network, now becoming pervasive throughout the United States and gaining traction in Europe and Asia Pacific is being regarded as a trusted partner that delivers. That it can be configured to specific operator requirements and is scalable, flexible and affordable are huge plus points.
Fraser noted that the with the rise of mobile devices and increased demand for constant connectivity, carriers were looking at multiple strategies to ease the congestion of cellular networks. Devicescape was proud to offer a highly curated Wi-Fi network to carrier partners.
In related news, Devicescape recently announced that Public Mobile Inc., a provider of unlimited talk, text and data services to value-conscious customers in Ontario and Quebec, will leverage Devicescape’s Wi-Fi solution to offload data intensive traffic from cellular-to-Wi-Fi on their new Android (News - Alert) smartphones.
