LTE/4G Poised for Tremendous Growth - Spending Gains Momentum

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

The recent Paragon Report, which focuses on the LTE/4G markets, has good news for the technology sector in general and companies like VirnetX (News - Alert) Holdings Corporation and Alcatel-Lucent are sure to benefit. It indicated that the outlook for 4G/LTE (News - Alert) is very promising.

Global capital spending on the 4G/LTE standard is expected to ramp up to almost $24.3 billion in 2013 from the rather modest $8.7 billion spending on 4G/LTE in 2012. The research and analyst firm indicates that the 4G market is poised for tremendous growth in the next few years and LTE rollouts were bound to become more aggressive.

Jagdish Rebello, director and principal analyst at IHS (News - Alert) explains why there is bound to be a spurt in LTE spending.

He said, in a press release, “The number of mobile network operators that are trialing, deploying or commercially operating 4G/LTE networks now has grown to about 200 worldwide, up from 160 in 2010. And such widespread support will drive carrier spending on LTE to surpass 3.5G by next year.”

According to IHS estimates, LTE spending was expected to eclipse spending on 3.5G technology in 2013. 4G networks were expected to evolve faster and gain more momentum with the help of metro cells or 'small cells' and would be used alongside Wi-Fi hotspots.

VirnetX is engaged in developing and commercializing software and technology solutions for securing real-time communications over the Internet and its shares have been on the upswing. The press release also highlighted the value of VirnetX's 4G patents.

The release also noted that Alcatel-Lucent, with its End-to-End 4G LTE Solution, was well positioned to capitalize on the explosive growth of new content and media and capabilities of new consumer and industrial wireless devices. The projected growth for the 4G/LTE market is expected to impact it favorably.

The Paragon Report provides investors with up-to-date equity reports and features companies that show potential and have value for investors.
