ip.access, a leading small cell vendor, announced the launch of its nanoConverge solution, which provides easy converged upgrade path to small cell Long Term Evolution (LTE (News - Alert)) deployments.
The nanoConverge solution provides mobile operators with a single converted 2G and 3G small cell Radio Access Network that allows them to add 3G capability to their existing ip.access 2G small cell deployments.
nanoConverge is built using ip.access' award-winning Oyster3G technology that powers the world’s largest femtocell roll-out – the AT&T (News
- Alert) 3G MicroCell in the USA. The solution complies with 3GPP’s Iuh and TR-069 small cell industry standards,
The nanoConverge solution allows 2G, 3G and LTE small cells to be controlled and managed from a common platform. This will optimize existing infrastructure investments. It also represents the true convergence of past, present and future small cell network roll-outs.
The solution runs the nano3G Access Controller and IPsec gateway on a blade within the nanoGateway 200 platform (used for the Basestation Controller in existing nanoGSM picocell deployments), and supports up to 500 nano3G Access Points.
Small cells are significant not only for next generation networks but also for existing mobile networks because they provide and capacity to existing networks. A common small cell core, addressing multiple radio access technologies, plays to this importance by helping keep operational complexity and cost down.
“Our nanoConverge solution will make small cell network planning, upgrade and roll-out easier and more economical for operators all over the world,” said ip.access Founder and CTO Nick Johnson, in a statement.
The company also plans to make further additions to its nanoConverge solution next year. These enhancements will not only add LTE capability but will also enable operators to run larger volumes of 2G, 3G and 4G small cells from a single converged nanoGateway, company officials said.
The nanoConverge solution would be entering operator trials next month, with full scale deployments scheduled to begin early next year.
Recently ip.access announced the launch of a new C8 consumer femtocell Access Point (News - Alert). The new 3G residential small cell can provide strong 3G signal for up to eight phones simultaneously within a home or home office.
