Alcatel-Lucent and Ixia Demonstrate High-Density Switches for Data Center
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
Telecom equipment provider, Alcatel-Lucent, and Ixia (News
- Alert), a global provider of converged IP network test solutions, announced partnership for live demonstration of Alcatel-Lucent’s new line of high-density, low latency switches for data centers.
The solution, demonstrated at Interop, featured a live test of Alcatel-Lucent’s (News
- Alert) new Application Fluent approach for data center switching with the OmniSwitch 10K and OmniSwitch 6900.
Multi-site private cloud networks are required to leverage the public cloud. In order to adapt to this, enterprises data center networks need to transform to a converged application and storage fabric, one which can accommodate the increased server to server network traffic and also meet low latency bandwidth requirements of storage or video.
This trend will drive the re-architecture of the enterprise data centers from multi-tier switching hierarchies to an improved data center fabric, according to company officials.
The new solution from Alcatel-Lucent and Ixia validate the robust deployment and delivery of high scale real time-sensitive applications, according to company officials.
Ixia’s IxNetwork application and Xcellon-Flex 10GE high-density load module verifies comprehensively the scalability and performance of the Alcatel-Lucent switching solution using east-west and north-south data center application traffic.
Each XcellonFlex module leverages multi-core CPUs and flexible processing power combined with the most precise hardware based latency and jitter measurements, according to company officials. Ixia’s tests validate Alcatel-Lucent’s ability to optimize application delivery.
Recently Ixia announced the release of its new Xdensity high-port-count 10GE load module. Ixia's Xdensity load module is ideal for testing ultra-high density converged data center fabrics.
The solution offers the industry's highest 10GE port density, with 32 ports on a single slot load module, scaling up to 384 ports in a single Ixia XM12 chassis to deliver 3.84 terabits of test traffic -- double the traffic generation and analysis of its nearest competitor.
