By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor
Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), a provider of broadband networking, IP technologies, applications and services, recently announced the appointment of Erwin Teufner as the company’s new Chief Technical Officer, or “CTO,” as well as board member of directors of Alcatel-Lucent Austria.
As a CTO, Teufner has the responsibility to strengthen company’s position as a technology leader in Austria, said Alcatel-Lucent.
Teufner started his career with Alcatel Austria in 1993 at the company’s system & software development department. After six years, he took over sales leadership for Broadband & Data network in Alcatel.
In 2002, Teufner was appointed as director of Technical Sales and later became vice-president of Broadband and Data network for Central and Eastern Europe.
Teufner has been vice-president of Technical Sales for the CIS, Central & South East Europe, or “CCSE,” region, since 2008. He has succeeded Oliver Schmerold in the board of directors of Alcatel-Lucent Austria. Schmerold has now been appointed vice-president, Vertical Markets Services Division of Alcatel-Lucent worldwide.
Recently, Alcatel-Lucent announced its “Open Community Broadband” program, which is helping operators of “citynets” around the world – such as open access networks typically operated by municipal governments or utilities – to manage the complexities that are typical of fiber-to-the-home, or “FTTH,” deployments.
Alcatel-Lucent said that it leverages a unique combination of experience and expertise to address the challenge of designing, deploying and operating FTTH networks that can support a wide variety of operators and a vast array of services.
The company also announced that China Telecom (News - Alert), through its subsidiary Shanghai Telecom, successfully tested and validated its multicarrier EV-DO solution, based on the Rev. B standard.
Alcatel-Lucent’s multicarrier EV-DO solution will enable Shanghai Telecom to boost its network speed by up to three times and offer increasingly sophisticated 3G services. In this regard, the company signed a contract through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese flagship company.
