Water Innovations Alliance Announces Groundbreaking Partnership as Part of Its Upcoming Water Infrastructure Summit
NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--
Innovations Alliance (WIA) will be holding an innovative one-day
event in Washington, D.C., on Friday, May 18, 2012: The
Water Infrastructure Summit. The event will host many of the
nation's leading thinkers, officials and business leaders to discuss the
creation of the 21st century smart water system.
At the event several major announcements will be unveiled including the
announcement that The
Water Initiative (TWI) has become the first WIA member company to
join the Our
Water Counts movement.
Our Water Counts is a web-based platform to combat global water crisis.
The interactive web site and active blog was launched by General
Electric to engage all the key stakeholders in the global water system
to develop a dialog for creating innovative solutions for how the world
sources, treats, moves and uses water.
TWI is a team of leading global business executives and renowned
scientists who develop and deploy "Point-of-Drinking" ("POD") water
systems to fit local conditions.TWI works with local communities to
co-create unique business development models for delivering customized
and sustainable technology solutions which effectively remove water
contaminants such as pathogens (bacteria and viruses), unsafe levels of
inorganic materials (such as arsenic and fluorides) and harmful
chemicals. Recently, TWI announced a major deployment of their
home-based units in Durango, Mexico.
"1.2 billion people are without access to safe water today. Many areas
lack the funding and infrastructure to use traditional water service
delivery methods," said Kevin McGovern, Founder and CEO of The Water
Initiative. He further noted, "New thinking needs to be used on how to
solve this problem. TWI is passionately working with local communities,
to deploy community-specific, integrated, platform technology solutions
to bring clean drinking water at a price far below the cost of
"TWI's affordable point-of-drinking water solutions eliminate the burden
of constructing expensive centralized treatment for many rural
communities," noted Alan Hinchman, Infrastructure Marketing Director for
GE Intelligent Platforms (News - Alert). He added, "TWI's rapid customization model
ensures proper treatment is done for every region, and has allowed
thousands of people access to safe drinking water. Kevin McGovern
and his team are leading the revolution of new thinking on how to
effectively deliver water to consumers."
"The Water Initiative, as a member of Our Water Counts, will be able to
communicate successes and educate future customers with their
technology," said Vincent Caprio, Co-founder and COO for the WIA. "I am
very impressed with the ability of Our Water Counts to tell TWI's
compelling story via video, blogging and other multiple tools. We
believe that GE, TWI and WIA working together will provide a positive
platform to enlighten customers."
The Water Initiative joins GE, Westin Engineering, University of
Virginia, and the Water Innovations Alliance in supporting Our Water
