By Light Awarded Prime Contract to Provide Real Time Location System (RTLS) Sensor Solution to Improve Patient Safety and Clinical Workflow at the Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System
ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--
By Light Professional IT Services, Inc. (By Light), a Service Disabled
Veteran Owned Small Business, announced it was awarded a prime contract
by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Omaha Regional Medical
Center. By Light and team members World Wide Technology (WWT) and Ekahau (News - Alert)
will implement an Ekahau Real-Time Location Tracking System (RTLS)
Sensor platform over a Cisco 802.11 Wireless network to automatically
monitor and manage environmentally sensitive medications, supplies,
foods, and other items in the VA Nebraska - Western Iowa Health Care
System. The facilities covered by the award include the Omaha Nebraska
VA Medical Center and seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in
Nebraska: Bellevue, Grand Island, Holdrege, Lincoln, Norfolk, North
Platte, O'Neill, and one in Shenandoah, Iowa.
"It is increasingly clear that technology enables companies to thrive
and provide the most efficient service to its customers," said Bob
Donahue, President of By Light. "As a veteran, I understand the need to
better serve our nation's veterans, and our team is committed to
supporting the VA and Secretary Shinseki's 16 initiatives. We are proud
to continue to serve the VA with this opportunity."
The team will implement Ekahau's wireless temperature sensors to monitor
refrigerators, freezers, warming units and temperature controlled areas
used for laboratory work and patient care. The Ekahau sensors
communicate via a Cisco (News - Alert) Wireless 802.11 network to a centralized server
that monitors all temperature and humidity levels 24x7. Any temperature
breaches affecting the proper storage of pharmaceuticas, tissues,
organs, blood, food and other items will issue an alert the VA staff
before the contents are affected -- keeping the patient safe and
protecting the life-saving contents within these units.
Committed to providing technology solutions that are tightly aligned
with the VA Nebraska - Western Iowa Health Care System leadership's clinical
and business goals while bringing them the best value, the team's design
is in alignment with the VA's national enterprise wireless goals and
seamlessly integrates 'best-in-class' temperature monitoring and sensor
management technologies, forging new ground for wireless and mobile
clinical care innovation.
