China Telecom, Tsinghua University establish Internet technology and application
BEIJING, Mar 12, 2010 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
China Telecom (CHA.NYSE;
00728.HK) and China's Tsinghua University announced on Thursday the
establishment of a joint laboratory for next-generation Internet
technology and applications.
In the meantime, China Telecom has initiated a business
transformation to the next-generation Internet. The joint lab will
solve the IPv4 address shortage and offer IPv6 traffic management,
route monitoring, and industrial applications, so as to provide
practicable solutions to problems that may be confronted during this
year's next-generation Internet pilot project.
Wang Xiaochu, general manager of China Telecom, said that
developing the next-generation Internet will stimulate the innovation
and evolution of China's Internet technology, optimize the industrial
structure, and increase its Internet security management.
The emerging Internet of Things has stirred up the third wave
of information technology after the computer and Internet.
Industrial experts expect that the Internet of Things will be
popularized in ten years. Further, the applicable high-tech market
size will surpass trillions of yuan, and range from smart
transformation, environmental protection, public security, industry
monitoring and logistics to medical treatment. The broad application
of the Internet of Things needs the support of networks based on the
next-generation Internet. (Edited by Luo Jingjing, luojj@xinhua.org)
