BRIEF: Woman allegedly phones bomb threat to keep husband from checking bank account
Dec 19, 2008 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Authorities say a Harrisonville woman was so desperate to stop her husband from going to a bank and checking on their account that she called in a bomb threat.
J'anna J. Mathes, 46, was charged Wednesday in Cass County Circuit Court with one count of making a terrorist threat.
Court documents say that on Nov. 29, someone with a "calm and cheerful voice" called Commerce Bank at 1301 Locust St. in Harrisonville and said, "I'm just calling to let you know that in 15 minutes a bomb will be going off in your bank."
For two hours, the bank was shut down as police and an explosive-sniffing dog searched the building.
No bomb was found and the investigation led to Mathes. Authorities said she first denied making the call, but then said she did, using a pay phone.
She and her husband had been arguing about their joint checking account.
