ADC Wireless Solution Connects Scania Employees

TMCnet Contributing Editor

The ADC InterReach Unison in-building wireless solution is helping Scania, a manufacturer of heavy trucks, buses and engines to deliver high-quality mobile coverage at its main production facility in Sweden.

By using the InterReach Unison system, Scania is able to improve wireless reception for its employee mobile phones. This not only increases the effectiveness of the company’s business communications but also reduces its carbon footprint.

Scania wanted to improve wireless reception in its production facilities, but looked for an in-building wireless system that could also reduce the microwave radiation given off by its employees’ mobile phones as well as the amount of electrical energy needed to recharge them. The company considered solutions from several vendors by working closely with Absolute Mobile, a Swedish indoor coverage provider, and finally decided to deploy Absolute Mobile and the InterReach Unison solution from ADC.

ADC has ensured that Scania’s main production facility now has strong and uniform wireless coverage. This allows mobile phones to use less signal strength, which minimizes the phones’ microwave emissions and extends their battery life.

Leif Riiser, product manager responsible for telephony for Scania said in a statement that the InterReach Unison system stood out in terms of the coverage and signal quality it delivered. The solution reduced the signal produced by employee mobile phones and also reduced the overall level of microwave radiation given off by mobile phones in their factory allowing them to meet their environmental target head-on.

Lars Lindmark, vice president of sales and marketing for Absolute Mobile noted that the Unison system’s high performance and efficiency easily made it the most environmentally friendly solution available for Scania.

According to John Spindler, vice president of product management for ADC, large facilities like the Scania plant require systems that can efficiently distribute a cellular signal to every area with high and uniform output. He added that with their InterReach Unison system, ADC offers the highest performance in a system that scales to accommodate facilities of any size, and that performance translates to lower emissions and energy costs for cellular phone users.

ADC provides the connections for wireline, wireless, cable, broadcast, and enterprise networks around the world. Last week ADC announced that their InterReach Fusion in-building cellular system delivered advanced cellular coverage and capacity for the Black Gold Centre in Leduc, a rapidly growing city south of Edmonton and site of the 2008 Alberta Winter Games.
