NextPhase Gets FCC Approval for WiMAX
NextPhase Wireless (News - Alert) Inc. has reportedly received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a nationwide license allowing it to provide WiMAX
wireless services in the 3.65 GHz band (3650-3700 MHz).
NextPhase Wireless is a developer of WiMAX (News - Alert)-ready networks and provider of advanced wireless broadband solutions. The company strives to deliver integrated Internet, voice, video and managed services to its nearly 10,000 customers.
The company designs, deploys and operates WiMAX
ready wireless networks along with advanced wireless technology solutions to both businesses and municipalities. Its ISP services encompass most of the states in the U.S besides offering broadband coverage in California and Nevada.
Commenting on the license approval Robert Ford, President and CEO of NextPhase Wireless, said in a press release, “In late 2007, the FCC (News - Alert) acknowledged the challenges faced in deploying WiMAX services in the US, and opened up the 3.65 - 3.7 GHz band for Wireless Broadband Services in an attempt to encourage multiple entrants and stimulate the expansion of broadband service to rural and under-served areas.”
“Applications for nationwide licenses were accepted from November 12, 2007, and I’m happy to announce that our application to provide WiMAX wireless services in the newly released GHz band has been approved,” Ford added enthusiastically.
NextPhase has also acquired LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service) spectrum in some regions including Atlanta in Georgia; Los Angeles in California; Miami in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Philadelphia in Pennsylvania/Wilmington and Delaware in Trenton, New Jersey.
Talking about this acquisition Ford said, “Combined with the recently announced LMDS spectrum that we’ve acquired in certain key markets we now have all of the elements in place to deliver a comprehensive portfolio of business-grade broadband services, at speeds ranging from 3 Mbps to 622 Mbps.”
