U.S. Marine Corps Picks Jabber for Mission-Critical Communications
The Jabber Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP) has been selected by the U.S. Marine Corps as a communication and collaboration solution to include instant messaging (IM), group chat, presence, federation gateways for SIP/SIMPLE, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), and software development kits (SDKs).
Jabber will also provide professional services to include virtualization
integration consultation, custom training, and architecture and engineering support. The company has sold a total of 283,000 licenses of Jabber XCP supporting active duty and reserve Marines, civilian employees, and contractors to the Marine Corps.
The $3.4 million enterprise licensing agreement (ELA) will enable the Marine Corps to integrate Jabber XCP with new and legacy information systems over the next three years. This agreement will enable members of the Marine Corps to use Jabber XCP on tactical systems while deployed in support of military operations, or in garrison.
In addition, the Marine Corps will leverage Jabber Messenger for the Web. This Web client is easily administered and uses minimal bandwidth. Jabber Messenger for the Web enables alternative work arrangements and other work activities where a client-side application cannot, or should not, be installed on the user desktop.
Paul Guerin, chief executive officer of Jabber said in a statement that Jabber XCP’s secure, extensible, and interoperable presence and messaging platform delivers mission-critical communications regardless of protocol, device, or location.
Guerin indicated that Jabber’s ability to scale and incorporate with legacy architectures will allow the Marine Corps to successfully navigate the communications landscape today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
